Almost certainly the principal catalyst to the Burger Boom of Buenos Aires, Burger Joint opened its doors in February of 2013 and introduced the capital to just how a real burger should be. Despite being the “carne” meat capital of the world, Buenos Aires before then was stuck in a land of dry, flat, overcooked and under seasoned burgers, so Burger Joint was a real game changer.
It doesn’t try to do anything fancy, sticking to what it knows best and doing it right. My personal favourite is ‘La Americana’ (adding bacon to anything is always a bonus), but if you are feeling brave you could go for ‘La Mexican’, piled with hot sauce and jalapeños. If you desire you can order a burger on its own, but I would strongly recommend you go for the combo deal, at a very reasonable $180 pesos to add top notch fries and a drink. You surely won’t be disappointed.
The environment itself is bursting with character. You are encouraged to take a marker and leave your mark on the walls and furniture. It’s a cool way to interact with the space without it feeling too gimmicky.
Heisenburger Burger Lab

With the obvious tie in to the immensely popular ‘Breaking Bad’ series, Heisenburger draws the immediate attention of fans of the show with its amazing chalkboard mural. Believe me when I say though, that it does not depend on this marketing as a crutch to bring people in through the doors. The burger is the one who knocks.
Having the option choose your four favourite toppings, Heisenburger truly is an experimental laboratory of burgers. If you prefer the tried and tested, there are of course many house options, with favourites being La Hangover (said by bar hoppers to truly have powers to deny hangovers), and the unusual looking ‘la de salmón con pan negro’ burger.
The accompanying papas fritas are the real deal, you can choose between traditional potato ones or sweet potato fries. Upon this, you don’t normally find yourself commenting on the bread bun of a burger, it’s what’s in between that usually takes centre stage, but those of Heisenburger are so good that you really can’t deny that they have thought of every last detail.
So popular that there are now two locations, the first on calle Gorriti and the second on calle Báez in Palermo, it is now even easier to get your finger food fix.
Tierra de Nadie

There are certainly (and sadly) some extranjeros who pass most, if not all, of their time in the confines of Palermo. The thought of venturing out into what seems like no man’s land for a burger just doesn’t seem worth it when there are so many great options closer to home. And with what we have seen above, who can blame them? ‘Tierra de Nadie’ seems to acknowledge this fact in its name, but you would be hugely missing out to not venture out and give this joint a try!
Located in the barrio of Caballito, not usually known for its culinary offerings, Tierra de Nadie is breaking the mould and serving up quality American-inspired bites. It flies under the radar of most but the locals, during the day serving to random clientele which pass by through the street. At night the curtains are lowered and the spot transforms into a secret hamburger hole in the wall for only those that know.
One edge Tierra de Nadie gains over its competition are the awesome sauces made in house. It saddens me to say, but even my beloved Heinz doesn’t hold a candle to the homemade flavors to be found including ketchup, honey mustard, sour cream, TDN spicy sauce, BBQ, Bourbon sauce and Caesar.
They also provide their own interpretation of tacos and burritos, not authentically mexican but a cool take on it with high quality ingredients. If Crispy Crunchy Chicken is more your thing, the simple but tasty sandwiches are to die for!
