The initial impression of many visitors is that Buenos Aires is reminiscent of a cosmopolitan European city: shaded plazas are dotted amongst the grid networks of cobblestone streets, and you will find fashionable locals sitting and chatting in corner cafes, and strolling along tree-lined avenues.
However, this is Argentina, South America, a country with its own distinct cultural identity. Buenos Aires is a city of neighbourhoods, each with their own special charm.
There’s the contemporary dynamic culture of Downtown Buenos Aires, where fashionistas, artists and jet-setters collide on the tree-lined streets to enjoy the finest Malbec wines after a long day browsing the markets.
There’s San Telmo, the historical neighbourhood of cobblestone streets and antique buildings. There you’ll find tango salons bursting with intense and spirited dancers and hear the classic sounds of the dance spilling onto the streets.
The gorgeous and sophisticated Recoleta is defined by its museums, theatres, French architecture and sprawling green parks. But throughout Buenos Aires’ 40+ barrios, there is one thing that ties the city together: the open, friendly, endlessly giving spirit of the people of Argentina.

For many years, Vamos Spanish Academy operated out of a beautiful former arts institute building in the coastal barrio of Palermo, a short walk from where the East Coast of Argentina meets the Atlantic Ocean. Palermo is the largest barrio in Buenos Aires, and is renowned for its variety of chic restaurants and shopping destinations. It was a wonderful home for us, and an even better place for our students to put their hard-earned Spanish skills to the test while exploring the streets of our city.
But over the years, Vamos has grown, with ever more students to serve and instructors to teach them. Inevitably, the day came where we knew we had outgrown our home, and had to find a new one.
But fortunately, that didn’t mean leaving Buenos Aires. In fact, the new Vamos Spanish Academy is located only a half-hour walk—less than 3 kilometers—from our original location. Today you can find us centrally located between the elegant French-style Recoleta neighborhood and the bustling Microcentro in Buenos Aires.
You will get to experience the best of both worlds: a good mix of calm and energetic city life. We are close to many popular touristic attractions in walking distance, such as the popular shopping street Av. Santa Fe, El Ateneo Grand Splendid (the bookstore known as one of the most beautiful in the world), Recoleta cemetery, Obelisk, Galerías Pacífico, many cultural centers and museums, and much more.
