- NIE certificate or TIE (residence card), if you already have one
- DNI, for Spanish nationals
Proof of address this depends on your housing situation:
- If you’re the tenant: your signed rental contract
- If you’re living with a host family, flatmate, or friend who holds the lease: a signed authorisation from the person on the contract, plus a copy of their ID
- If you own the property: the escritura (title deed) or a recent property tax (IBI) receipt
- A recent utility bill is sometimes accepted as supporting evidence alongside the above

Because most students and new arrivals live closer to the centre or the university area, OMAC Centro and the Teatinos-Universidad office tend to be the most convenient options. Whichever office you choose, you can complete the padrón there, registration isn’t restricted to the office nearest your new address.
How Do You Book a Cita Previa for the Padrón in Málaga?
Appointments (cita previa) are required for OMAC service, with one notable exception: people over 65 can generally be attended without booking ahead. Everyone else should reserve a slot before turning up, since staff won’t process registration without one.
You can book a cita previa in two ways:
- Online, through the Ayuntamiento’s appointment platform at citaprevia.malaga.eu, where you select the service (padrón/empadronamiento), an office, and an available time slot
- By phone, calling the municipal information line on 010 (or 951 926 010 if calling from outside Málaga)
OMAC offices attend the public Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00, excluding public holidays and 24 and 31 December. Appointment slots can fill up quickly, especially in September and October when the academic year begins and many students arrive in Málaga at once, so it’s worth booking as soon as you have your documents ready rather than waiting until the week you need the certificate.
How Long Does Empadronamiento Take, and Is There a Fee?
Registering on the padrón in Málaga does not cost anything, there’s no fee to submit the hoja padronal or to request your certificado de empadronamiento afterwards.
