After having traveled far and wide, the Olympic Flame will finally arrive at the Olympic Stadium in London on Friday July 27 (TODAY!), lighting up the cauldron to kick start the 2012 Olympic Games. Are you excited? We surely are!!
When it comes to sports in the world stage, Argentina is known for its football but do you know, in terms of the Olympic Summer Games, Argentina actually won most medals in boxing. Out of the 66 all-time medal total since Argentina began its participation in 1900, 24 were won in the boxing category. This year, around 140 Argentine athletes will be competing, taking part in 28 events in the following categories:
Atletismo (athletics), Boxeo (boxing), Canoaje (canoe), Ciclismo (cycling), Esgrima (fencing), Equitación (equestrian), Gimnasia (gymnastic artistic), Judo, Lucha (wrestling), Nado Sincronizado (synchronized swimming), Natación (swimming), Remo (rowing), Taekwondo, Tenis (tennis), Tenis de mesa (table tennis), Tiro (shooting), Triatlon (triathlon), Yachting (sailing).
In last Summer Olympics 2008, Argentina had achieved 2 Gold in Track Cycling and Men´s Football, and 4 Bronze in Judo, Sailing, Men´s Basketball, and Women´s Hockey. We´ll see how we fare this year, and we do have high hopes outdoing our records!
Last but not least, a big shout out too all the athletes and everyone out there who is making this event possible. We wish everyone diviértase (have fun) y buena suerte (good luck)!!
