The passion for Tango in Buenos Aires has increased year after year and so has its followers, not only in Argentina but also in the world over. The growth of Tango in all its expressions has resulted in the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declaring Tango an intangible part of the cultural heritage of humanity. Futhermore, since February 2010, Tango officially has its own exclusive room in the city: the “Teatro de la Ribera” in the neighborhood of La Boca. From there, shows will be dedicated exclusively to the local Tango industry, including milongas, classes and exhibitions.
During The Buenos Aires Tango Festival, thousands of dancers and spectators from all over the world flock to the city to participate and experience the huge array of activities, all organised for the month of August. The festival culminates in the annual Dance Championship, which is performed throughout the city and stretches through the neighborhoods of Buenos Aires at each night captivating and differing milongas.
This unstoppable growth of Tango has resulted in events such as The Buenos Aires Tango Festival becoming ever more important and spectacular. In this way, more activities expand, twist and add to the cultural agenda, and serve to enrich the unique art form of Tango. Moreover, the festival underlines the distinctiveness of Tango in Buenos Aires, mixing tradition with modern diversity, a combination that so well encapsulates modern Tango in the city.
The festival runs between the 13th and the 31st of August and events will be taking place all over the city. All the events are free to attend up until full capacity is reached.
