The initial impression of many visitors is that Barcelona is reminiscent of a cosmopolitan city: shaded plazas are dotted amongst the grid networks of cobblestone streets, and you will find fashionable locals sitting and chatting in corner cafes, and strolling along tree-lined avenues.
However, this is Spain, Spain, a country with its own distinct cultural identity. Barcelona is a city of neighbourhoods, each with their own special charm.
There’s the contemporary dynamic culture of Downtown Barcelona, where fashionistas, artists and jet-setters collide on the tree-lined streets to enjoy the coolest Sangria's after a long day browsing the markets.
There’s Gotic Zone, the historical neighbourhood of cobblestone streets and antique buildings. There you’ll find Flamenco salons bursting with intense and spirited dancers and hear the classic sounds of the dance spilling onto the streets.
The gorgeous and sophisticated Gracia Zone is defined by its museums, fashion stores, splendid architecture and sprawling green parks. But throughout Barcelona 40+ barrios, there is one thing that ties the city together: the open, friendly, endlessly giving spirit of the people of Spain.

For many years, Vamos Spanish Academy operated out of a beautiful former arts institute building in the coastal zona of Example, a short walk from where the Fashion District of Barcelona. Zona de Gracia is one the largest zonas in Barcelona, and is renowned for its variety of chic restaurants and shopping destinations. It was a wonderful home for us, and an even better place for our students to put their hard-earned Spanish skills to the test while exploring the streets of our city.
But over the years, Vamos has grown, with ever more students to serve and instructors to teach them. Inevitably, the day came where we knew we had outgrown our home, and had to find a new one.
But fortunately, that didn’t mean leaving Barcelona. In fact, the new Vamos Spanish Academy has located only a half-hour walk—less than 3 kilometers—from our original location. Today you can find us centrally located between the elegant French-style El Raval neighborhood and the bustling Barcelona Dowtown in Barcelona.
You will get to experience the best of both worlds: a good mix of calm and energetic city life. We are close to many popular touristic attractions within walking distance, such as the popular shopping street, many cultural centers and museums, and much more.
