La Panera Rosa
Don’t let the pink exterior fool you, this restaurant is more than just a coffee shop for a quick pick me up. There is incredible food there, and the menu is big. They have everything: sandwiches, hamburgers, pastas. But the best part of the menu is the crepes. My favorite is the Pollo Desmechado crepe. It’s absolutely delicious. Among other things, it has chicken with pesto, sun dried tomatoes, basil and it’s to die for. I also recommend the Oreo cheesecake while you’re there.

2. Minga
This is a very nice place to stop for the traditional Argentine parrilla. It’s a modern, fairly upscale, trendy restaurant. When you get there they bring you bread and veal pâté which was absolutely wonderful. I went to eat here with my family and we all really enjoyed our meals. My mother and I got the veal and my brother and father got the tenderloin. The menu here is really meant to be shared with someone else so most of the parrilla orders are split. Definitely somewhere to stop if you’re in the area.

3. Sans
Probably the major attraction of this restaurant is the location. It’s on the corner of Plaza Serrano. If you sit on the terrace during a nice day you can enjoy the sunshine while overlooking the plaza from above. Past the location, it’s a wonderful food and drink menu at reasonable prices. Even if you’re not hungry, it’s a great place to stop for a drink and something sweet!

4. Cafe Blues
An excellent place for brunch. It’s a very quaint atmosphere and not too pricy. All the foods here will be breakfast or cafe type foods: scrambled eggs and toast, salads, pastas, soups etc. You’re not going to find much complexity to the foods, but they’re always fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is a major draw too. The interior of the cafe is all red brick and wooden tables with a rustic and homey type vibe. Definitely stop by if you’re looking for something quaint and tasty that won’t break the bank.

5. Ceviche
This restaurant is my favorite on this list and I absolutely love this place. It’s a more modern restaurant with a slightly upscale feel. I like going there on Sundays because it is 2 for 1 sushi day and if you go you must, must, must try the ceviche sushi. It’s sushi topped with ceviche and I haven’t seen this anywhere else. This sushi is a Peruvian/Japanese fusion dish (as the name implies) and it is the best sushi I’ve ever had: hands down. On top of that they have different events during the week such as dessert tastings, cipri and pisco nights, all you can sushi, and on the weekends there’s 2 for 1 happy hour. Really nice bar with some excellent food.

6. Havanna
This chain was founded in 1948 in Mar del plata, Argentina (a beach town on the Atlantic coast). Though it’s possible you would know this brand as it’s expanded to other parts of South America, the United States, and Europe. The company was started by a baker who made alfajores (an Argentinian pastry). Today the Havanna brand is widely considered the best Alfajores. Though a must do in Argentina is to have an alfajor, I also suggest getting a cup of coffee while you’re there. The coffee is quite good there and there’s a wide menu of all the coffees your heart desires.

7. Chori
This restaurant is as close as it gets to Argentinian fast-food. But don’t let the term “fast-food” turn you away, it’s not like McDonalds. It’s all different types of sausage on with different combinations of toppings of bread. They sell six different types of sausage (different meats as well) and morcilla, or blood sausage. But again, don’t let that turn you away! It’s really tasty (and you don’t have to order morcilla if that grosses you out). You can get the “chori de cancha”, or “stadium chori” which is just chorizo and chimichurri. It’s an excellent order to start with if it’s your first Chori, because it’s the most common. Choripan is a must have in Argentina, and it’s quite tasty at Chori.

8. Rincón Norteño
Among the locals I’ve talked to Rincón Norteño is pretty much regarded as the best empanadas. What I’ve found sets them apart from the others is that shell of the empanada is crunchy whereas other places you go you’ll probably get a softer shell. The empanadas at Rincón Norteño are going to be around $25 pesos each which is a bit pricy for empanadas, though the quality is going to be higher. $25 pesos also translates to about $1.50 USD each so it’s really not breaking the bank.

9. Al Rawshe
This place is a little Lebanese restaurant in Plaza Italia. It is a hidden gem because it’s a cozy restaurant and it hasn’t been very busy every time I go there. The restaurant could easily be missed if you were just walking by because it’s not somewhere that attracts the eye. Anyways, you absolutely must try the falafel and eggplant dip while you’re there. Both were spectacular. One of my friends had the shawarma and said it was also incredible. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the mood for middle east food.

10. Brukbar
Last but not least: Brukbar. Definitely the place to go if you’re looking for a good burger. Thursdays there are 2 for 1 on burgers and drinks during happy hour which is until 10 pm. The restaurant is actually more of a bar and isn’t very busy unless its the weekend. The bar is know for it’s incredible atmosphere and drinks for somewhere to go on the weekend. Less well known is that the burgers are excellent there too. They have everything from a traditional cheeseburger to veggie burgers and even pulled pork (which I had and was very tasty). It’s a great place to go for a burger without the discount, but the discount only makes it that much better!
